talking to the camera challenge

One of my big goals in 2023 was to FINALLY start a Youtube channel – something I’ve wanted to do for what’s felt like my entire life.

I’ve been a blogger for a while now and getting into video production has always felt like the next big step! So of course, I was SO excited to sit down and talk to the camera… that is until I realized JUST how awkward I felt haha. My voice came out suuuuper high pitched, I stumbled over words, I blanked completely, and I felt soo cringe lol. It’s like my communication skills just disappeared! The first time I tried to film, it took me over four hours to film a 14-minute sit-down video (click here to watch said video!).

To overcome this, I decided to create a 30-Day Talking to the Camera Challenge! In this 30-day challenge, I wanted to become more comfortable and confident in front of the camera and, by extension, boost my overall confidence. I also hoped it would help me express myself more naturally – no more robotic, shy, “Is anyone even watching this?” vibes.

I actually ended up documenting the whole thing if you want to see it here:

This post is ALL about my 30-day talking to the camera challenge.

THE WHY: HOW TO BE CONFIDENT ON CAMERA

Let’s be real – most content creators you see online, who seem effortlessly cool and natural on camera, have put in so much practice to get there! Think about someone like Casey Neistat – the OG YouTube vlogger that makes it look EASY. But it’s literally his job to tell stories and be on camera, and he’s spent YEARS honing that skill!

That’s exactly why I’m did this challenge – to build the confidence and ease that so many creators have spent years developing! For me, learning how to be confident in front of a camera wasn’t just about being able to speak well or look relaxed – it was also about pushing myself out of my comfort zone and feeling like I can geninunely show up as myself. Plus, it definitely helped with my public speaking skills too! All about that growth mindset!! 🙂
